This beautiful 4 year old, pittie girl has been named Maya. She lived a terrible life before being rescued by Corridor Rescue. In mid October, our volunteers were made aware of a mama dog in need via a Facebook message from one of our followers. One of our volunteers found the dog and noticed her running frantically in the parking lot of a small shopping center, so she stopped to feed her and asked the local residents about her. What she learned was absolutely shocking and unthinkable!! The mama dog had taken shelter in the wooded area next to a parking lot for well over a year and would go out in search of food. Sadly residents of this area took advantage of her situation and would bring their male dog to mate with her and once she had the puppies, they would return and cruelly snatch them away from her to sell. She was devastated and lost after each time this happened. Funds were raised to hire a professional dog trapper who then came out to help us sedate and trap this sweet girl so that we could get her to safe place, get her mentally back on track and evaluate her health. She is now a beautiful, but shy lady of about 60 pounds. She is a Pit Bull Mix with a beautiful coat. She is a lover on all accounts and gets along amazingly well with all dogs, cats and kids. She takes a while to warm up to people, but that is not uncommon after being treated this way and having negative recollections of those men taking her babies. Maya has been nothing but calm, sweet and gentle since her rescue. She is a low energy dog and eventually will be a great companion to sit with on the couch at night. Maya is still learning to trust people and she will need a very patient, calm and loving new owner to help her bond. Time and patience are essential for her recovery.She was a stray for the majority of her life, so she will need additional training to learn most of the basics and a stable routine to adjust to. Maya's forever home will require other dogs in the home for her to follow, play with and for her to feel comfortable around. They will help to build her confidence and keep her feeling secure when times seem tough. She doesn't mind the cats that she lives with and has never bothered them at all. Maya would do best in a household that is on the lower energy side. If there are children in the home, calm, older ones would be ideal so she does not get frightened by running, playing and loud noises. This lovely dog is on her journey to be so much more than just the throwaway from the past. She is enjoying her life now that she is respected, getting plenty of love and attention, fed quality food and resting on a cozy bed each night. She just needs to learn that she can love and trust people from now on because we have made a commitment to her to find her a perfect family. Maya is currently going though rehabilitation with our partners at K&M Canines and has shown drastic improvements thus far. Do you have the time and patience to help Maya learn to trust?
