American Staffordshire Terrier - Tyler - Medium - Adult - Male
Can you imagine being severely wounded and having nowhere to go and nobody to help you? That was what Tyler had to go through as he hid under a tree deep in the brush in the Corridor of Cruelty to try to protect himself from further harm. It was fate that the Corridor Rescue volunteers spotted him that day while they were out feeding all of the strays. They immediately knew that they were rescuing him from death, but he was scared of their intentions and growled at them as a warning to stay away. He very quickly realized that they were his heroes. They gave him Rotisserie chicken to gain his trust and water to hydrate his weak and crashing body. His injuries were so extensive, but nobody knows what happened to this wonderful boy. It could have been that he was mauled by a much larger animal, hit by a car and left to die or injuries at the hands of heartless people. We will never know, but that is in the past and we are all so proud of our survivor for his journey since that day. Tyler is about 2 years old and currently 52 pounds. When he was found, he was just 41 pounds, so he has gained some much needed weight. Tyler has learned so much in the last several months since his rescue. His foster family adores him and he very much enjoys living life as a pet rather than surviving on his own. He currently lives with 2 cats, an 11 year old human sister and many other dogs that range in age from 8 weeks to 5 years and from 2 pounds to 70 pounds. He interacts beautifully with all of the 2 and 4 legged members of his foster family. Like all dogs, a proper introduction is necessary for Tyler so he feels comfortable when visiting new furry friends. Tyler had extensive surgical repairs and treatments to go through after his rescue. His wounds to his rear leg were too great for it to be saved. He has adjusted very well to living life as a tripod. He runs like a gazelle in his back yard, but he would not make a good running partner since his runs are in short bursts. He walks very nicely on a leash and enjoys his evening strolls around the neighborhood. He does not like swimming although he has a pool. Other than his severe leg injury, Tyler had very deep wounds on his back that have left permanent scars and he was also heartworm positive. He has recently finished treatment for the heartworms. Tyler has molded well into his foster family because they have provided him with a loving environment, but also with a routine. He requires exercise, discipline and affection and has thrived in a home setting with these simple things. When he wakes up in the morning, he runs to greet his dog buddies first, then his humans, then he eats and then wants to take a nap in his foster moms lap. He is a dog that seeks approval from his humans and he is a people pleaser 100% of the time. He loves belly rubs, chasing the ball (but rarely returns with it), his favorite toys are the plush, squeaky ones and is perfectly content for at least 30 minutes alone after you give him one. He clearly prefers to be with his dog friends and people though. He is a lover, not a loner! A couple of his hobbies include chasing bugs, playing in his yard and often dancing in circles to impress. While hes inside, he seeks your attention throughout the day. His given nickname is Bear because he will paw at you for some attention and love. He is very gentle when he takes treats out of hands and he doesnt have any food, treat or toy aggression at all. He likes to sleep soundly on a bed at night with the other members of his pack. The ideal family for our boy is really open because he does so well with everyone that hes met so far. If there are children in the family, over 6 years old would probably work out best for him as he is still learning how to gently paw for attention. He most definitely wants a family that is home more than they are away because he wants nothing more than to spend time with you. He is an all around big goof, easy going, fun-loving family dog and despite all of the trauma in his life, he has maintained the most appreciative and loving disposition. His fost
